A Crazy Week for Mockup 🚀
Hello everyone, Hasan here!
Three weeks ago, I was thrilled when a TikTok video for Mockup went viral. I shared that with you in a previous issue. But that was nothing next to what happened this past week! The level of excitement was on a whole different level!
I was checking Mockup's analytics data—as usual—when I noticed an unusual increase in downloads.
Curious, I went directly to the sources and discovered that users were coming from "t.co"; the link shortening for X (formerly Twitter).
I instantly opened X and searched for Mockup's Apple ID—a part of the URL—to find the post bringing all these users.
And I found two posts with our Mockup link, each garnering thousands of views.
Both were replies, so I checked the original posts, and there was the surprise!
The posts were a repost of our viral TikTok video, with some caption about ChatGPT?!
Pretty confusing. But these posts got millions of views!
And that's when I noticed something else that was interesting. The post with fewer views was from two days ago, while the other, with many more views, was from just a day ago…
And if you don't know, the analytics data in App Store Connect only appears after 2 days.
That means that the "increase" I noticed in Mockup downloads was from the post with fewer views…
I was beyond excited knowing that there would be another huge boost considering the views on the other post! And sure enough, the next day I checked the analytics, and there it was, the boost I expected!
That was huge! Mockup had never seen this number of downloads in a single day.
And guess what? It didn't end there. A couple of days later, I noticed new users from a new traffic source: Threads!
I followed the same process and found the post! It was copied from X.
While I'm not particularly proud of these posts—they were misleading, and whoever posted them had no idea what the app was, I can’t deny that they gave Mockup a massive boost, and people got to try it and learn about it.
Moreover, my team took advantage of it, by engaging with these posts and explaining what Mockup is all about. And to take things further, we offered a 48 hr discount for new users who found us on X.
This experience has been wild! It has completely changed my perspective on social media and content.
I used to think that for our social media efforts to succeed, we needed more views on our content, or we needed content from influencers we collaborate with to go viral.
But now I see that if our content goes viral, others may repost it—as their own—and it'll eventually get us more downloads and brand recognition. Not to mention the users who were sharing the app with each other using the different messaging apps. However, it's important for us to keep an eye on these posts so we can ensure our app is explained correctly.
That's it for this week! Thanks for reading!
